One of my favorite movie scenes ever. Pat Garret & Billy the Kid
The quote above from a Petersburg High School student circa 1990's regarding having to stand in the parking lot all day due to continuous problems at the school at that time.
My friend Ray was reading this blog and say the entry for Duke. It seems Ray and his spouse have a Bassett Hound / German Shepard mix like duke. His name is 'Munchkin'. The boxers name is 'Sir Ramsey Jones G.' Would be cool to see a picture of 'Munchkin' standing up! Thats when those Bassett Hound legs really stand out. Thx Ray.
Warning! Do not approach these sites. View them from public roads. If you are driving in Montana and you are in the middle of nowhere and see a chain linked fence with barbed wire on the top surrounding a 1/2 acre piece of land you can be pretty sure it is an ICBM silo. Other give aways are the 12 foot white "pole" which I have read is for security. Also, they all have an electrical pole with two transformers on them. To learn more you can visit the Minuteman Missle National Historic Site in South Dakota or just go to their website.
Entrance to the "Crater" tunnel dug by the Union underneath the South's fortifications in Petersburg. The battle was reenacted in the movie "Cold Mountain". There used to be a speaker in the tunnel and you could press a button and the narration would come from inside the tunnel. One day when Me and Rory where walking the park he went to the entrance for a sniff. I couldn't resist the opportunity to press the button and watch him run from there at light speed! Sorry Ror' dog.
My favorite abandonded house in Petersburg. As far as I can recall this house has been unoccupied for at least 15 years. Taxes are all paid though.
Got to see Old Crow Medicine Show at the Lewis Ginter Bontanical Gardens. Read this great interview with Ketch Secor of OCMS.
Canyon Ferry Lake (Missouri River) and a hike. Spent Saturday afternoon hanging out at the lake. Then hiked part of refrigerator canyon trail Sunday.
Woo Hoo. Ordered my ticket to see Old Crow Medicine Show at Lewis Ginter Botanatical Gardens in Virgina next month.
Again Abby pretending to be a water dog. Funny thing happened *after* this walk along Warm Springs Creek in the Elkhorns. I go to the local Chinese Food restaurant and get the following in my fortune cookie. "You will be spending time outdoors, in the moutains, near water". Maybe I should play the 'Lucky Numbers' it gave me.
Went back to Richmond Virginia for 2 weeks. During which time spent about 5 days in and around Asheville North Carolina. Had my fill of Krispy Kreme donuts and Carolina style bbq at Kings BBQ in Petersburg and Bill BBQ in Richmond. Strangely enough you can't find decent bbq in Montana.
Went to Blockbuster Video. Came back with a new black lab named Daisy. Daisy was playing on Montana Avenue. Some people said she almost got hit twice. Took her home because she had no name tag. Called the City of Helena Police. Two days later her owner called and said "...do you want to keep her?" Crazy.
After about 5 years I finally have done a little renevation at menko.com. Hope to add more stuff soon.
Driving into Helena last Saturday I heard the Old Crow Medicine Show on A Prairie Home Companion. You should be able to check their performance out at the PHC site. Its all I have been listening to this week. Bought the album 'O.C.M.S' from the iTunes site. Read more about them at here a CMT.com. Also their website has some free downloads.
This was my third year of seeing the DMB concerts at the Gorge I saw the Sat/Sun show in 2002 from the lawn, Sat/Sun show in 2003 from close-up and the Sat/Sun show in 2004 from close-up. The 2002 show was filmed for a concert DVD movie available at the DMB website. My friend Tim S. from Virginia flew into Helena for the show as well. We also did some fishing on the Missouri river in a drift boat and visited Seattle and Glacier National Park.
